EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

Here we are again! Thought we'd forgotten you didn't you? No such luck. What’s that you say? Christians don’t have luck? Well you’re absolutely right as there is not a sparrow that falls, not a hair that drops and not a thought that comes and goes that our heavenly Father doesn’t know or care about.

Speaking of which …what a marvellous night it was last night, one of those rare cool tropical nights, the weather was balmy and everything seemed pleasant. Then we went to sleep and when morning came I felt like it was time to go to bed.

Do you experience those types of mornings? I’m sure you do, and some perhaps more than others. It is a strange thing, how our minds are affected that is, by the circumstances around us, one moment one thinks things are great and the next morning it is as if nothing good has happened. Boy! Am I glad we don’t live according to our feelings or we’d probably crawl into a hole some place and stay there.

This reminds me of what I read this morning in the book of Ecclesiastes Ch9 V10-12, Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you will eventually go.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

For man does not know his time: as the fish that are taken suddenly in a net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time [unexpected], when it falls suddenly upon them.”

No one is able to say that he or she will go here or there and do this or that. Will happen as they planned? They might die unexpectedly on the way and then where would they be. Mmmm, that is not a bad question in itself. If the unexpected came upon you, where would you find yourself?

Perhaps I should explain it more plainly just as King Solomon did. You and I can be the best in what we do, be at the top of our profession, even gain the hall of fame or an OBE etc. but the way I see it dead is dead and there is nothing we can do about that. Where then will all those gains be that we make for ourselves? This life is not the end of us all for eternity because from my perspective there are too many things that show that we live on after we leave this tent that I call a body.

God has made it plain enough, we will either be with Him or we won’t and the only place where there will be any light is with Him. Think about that!

Perhaps I’ll write more again, but then again ………
